COMMON VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTION QUESTIONS

As part of our test, a certified inspector will carefully check the following components to ensure they meet Virginia State vehicle standards:

  • Brakes, including parking brake
  • All lights, including headlights

If you’re a new resident to Virginia, you must have a state car and vehicle inspection conducted immediately. Regardless of how long you’ve been in the state, you can be ticketed for not having a valid Virginia inspection sticker on your windshield. The maximum inspection fee is $12 for motorcycle and $20 for any other vehicle, including trailers and motor homes.

All vehicles in Virginia except those listed below must undergo annual safety inspections:

Antique vehicles that are at least 25 years old and registered as antique with the DMV Any trailer that with cargo weighs fewer than 3,000 lbs. (unless the trailer has brakes – all trailers with brakes must be inspected)
