North Carolina State Inspection
As part of our test, a certified inspector will carefully check the following components to ensure they meet North Carolina state vehicle standards:
- Brakes
- Lights
- Horn
- Steering
- Windshield wipers
- Directional signals
- Tires
- Rearview mirrors
- Exhaust emissions
North Carolina state vehicle inspection fees are $13.60. Emissions inspection fees, which include vehicle inspections, cost $30.00.
Your vehicle must pass inspection before its registration can be renewed. You must have your vehicle inspected no more than 90 days before your plate expires.
If your vehicle was made before 1995, it is exempt from having an emissions inspection. However, it will still need to have a state vehicle inspection.
Cars and trucks that are 35 years old or older are exempt from North Carolina state vehicle and emissions inspections.
