If this is the first time you’ve looked into getting your differential fluid (also known as differential oil) replaced, you’re not alone. Fortunately, when it comes to this oft-overlooked lubricant, our service technicians have you - and your differential fluid - covered.
- The vehicle manufacturer’s recommended differential fluid replacement interval (typically between 30,000 and 50,000 miles) has been exceeded.
- Gears make a whining or howling noise when they turn — a sign of low or excessively dirty lubricant.
Our service starts with a free inspection of your vehicle’s front and rear differential fluid (the liquid that keeps your differential gears and both front and rear axles running smoothly). If the fluid is contaminated or in otherwise poor condition, our technicians will let you decide whether you would like to proceed with a differential fluid change.
If you choose to continue, we will carefully replace it in accordance with your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.
Normal driving subjects differential fluid to high temperatures, which eventually breaks down the fluid and increases the heat and friction between the gears. Changing differential fluid is a commonly overlooked scheduled service that, when done routinely, can help maintain the life of your differential gears, so your car and your life can both keep running smoothly.
